Supermarket - ASDA

While it is great to find a little independent bottle shop close to home or on your travels the large supermarkets are also embracing the craft beer revolution at an alarming rate. While the market share of craft beer is still very low compared to mass produced lager the selection in your local hyper-mart is growing. Our aim is to document some of the great craft beers on offer with the first focusing on ASDA.

The Selection

ASDA has a cracking selection of UK and American craft breweries all at very competitive prices. Starting off at £1.65 per can/bottle with a deal as of this month of 4 for £6 on selected lines (including Brewdog, Goose Island, Innis & Guns and Maltsmiths). There is also a great choice on large bottles, can four packs and 12 can fridge packs.

The Best On Offer

What is really exciting is the choice available from some of the best and well known craft breweries including:

Brewdog - Punk IPA, Dead Pony, Elvis Juice, Jack Hammer, Kingpin, Electric India and 5AM Saint

Brooklyn Brewery - Scorcher IPA, Summer Ale, Brown Ale and 1/2 Ale

Fourpure - Session IPA and Pale Ale

Goose Island - Honkers Ale, IPA and 312 Wheat Ale

Bad Co - Dazed & Confused Milk Stout, Love Over Gold Blonde Ale, Wild Gravity IPA and Summer Breeze Fruit Beer

Other individual beers from some of Americas best breweries include:

Stone IPA, Oskar Blues Pinner Throwback IPA, Lagunitas IPA, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Anchor Steam Beer

Conclusion

Not everyone will be happy that the supermarkets are stocking craft beers. I am not one of these people. The convenience of being able to pick up some great craft beer at your local store is a good thing. I doubt we will ever see the day were seasonal cans from the up and coming breweries are stocked but the more popular breweries core range is a welcome addition to the supermarket. While ASDA are one of the last supermarkets to stock craft beer the selection they have is a good one. So make sure you pop down the beer isle, check out what's on offer and drop a couple of brews in your basket,
